Efectos genéticos sociales en caracteres productivos y de comportamiento alimentario en cerdos Duroc en crecimiento
The main objective of this work is to study genetic parameters of production and feeding behavior traits during the fattening period considering social genetic effects using records from 663 Duroc pigs. Our aim is to explore the relevance of considering feeding behavior traits in selection programs and to check whether splitting traditional additive genetic effects into its social and direct genetic components could result in certain configuration of the genetic correlations that might be more favorable to achieve the objective of allowing a reduction of backfat deposition (BF) while increasing growth (ADG) which under the traditional animal model shows an unfavorable magnitude. The only behavioral trait that seems to be correlated with performance traits is OT (occupation time). Social genetic effects are relevant factors for all studied traits. Although certain genetic relationships between ADG and BF using social model could be said to show a favorable sign to achieve the aforementioned selection objective, others parameters still show unfavorable sign and could be difficult to define an index combining direct and social genetic effects to achieve the desired objective.
