Abstract:

During the Feed-a-Gene stakeholder meeting held at the EAAP annual meeting in Tallinn (August 2017), a series of 10 interviews of researchers associated with the project was filmed. In this fourth episode, Hélène Gilbert presents the approach of Feed-a-Gene's fifth Work Package. In episodes 5-9 (to be released in the following weeks), Feed-a-Gene's researchers will present the results they have obtained so far. In the season finale, Jaap van Milgen will talk about the importance of stakeholders and about their feedback and input on the project.

Feed-a-Gene's WP5: Use of traits in animal selection (Genetic parameter estimations, genetic model developments & evaluation of breeding schemes)
Task 1: Genetics of components of feed efficiency and robustness indicators
Task 2: Genetic relationships between the gut microbiota and feed efficiency
Task 3: Statistical-genetic modelling of feed efficiency and robustness features
Task 4: Selection strategies to account for crossbred and genomic data for a sustainable selection for feed efficiency
Task 5: Demonstration of the value of social interactions and crossbred information in selection to improve feed efficiency
