Dienst Landbouwkundig Onderzoek (DLO) and Wageningen University together form Wageningen University and Research Centre. The tasks in this project will be carried out within Wageningen UR Livestock Research (WLR), which is part of DLO. Together with their clients, and based on practical experience, WLR integrates scientific know-how in the areas of livestock systems, nutrition, physiology, genetics, genomics, immunology, welfare and environmental impact of farm animals to produce livestock concepts for the 21th century. The interaction between nutrition, including pre- and probiotics, immunology, physiology, metabolism and performance is studied in many national and international projects and, more recently, omics-tools have been developed to study molecular mechanisms farm animals. The primary task of WLR is to develop knowledge for a profitable and sustainable livestock sector, to translate this into practice-oriented solutions and innovations, and to assure that this knowledge is disseminated, opening new perspectives for the livestock sector for the future.
