Organisation

GRUP belongs to Lleida University (UdL) and aims to achieve an efficient use of resources from a technical, economic, and environmental point of view. GRUP is composed of 17 staff members, organised in three main research areas: swine genetics, health, and nutrition/management. Nutrition and management investigates the interaction between livestock production and environment by developing resilient and environmentally sound strategies to improve production efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of animal production systems. There is strong expertise in microbial genetics to develop novel diagnostic traits to analyse the interaction between gut microflora and host genetic profile. The research work of the group also focuses on the relationship between genomic profiles and meat quality in growing pigs to develop, based on molecular markers, new pig genetic lines. The AgroITC & Precision Agriculture research group belongs also to Lleida University and investigates the application of ICT to design and develop new sensors, machine control, data acquisition, and data and signal processing to be applied in precision agriculture.
